Contest Winners + MY PRINTS!

Journal Entry: Sat Nov 3, 2007, 11:42 PM

:new: My Prints are currently available but for a limited time only. All available at postcard size and 8" x 10" / A4 sizes (roughly!).

and more...

I've had an awesome time hosting this contest. Not only were there some incredible entries but there was a lot of support for the News article and I see there were lots of comments added to pieces featured in the entries list, which is always great to see. Hopefully, some of you may have been introduced to some new artists too. :aww:

So now, the time has come to announce the Top 3. Believe me, this was no easy task. :faint: The calibre of all 91 entries was excellent. I was able to reduce those 91 down to 12 earlier this week, and then down to 6 and now... down to 3.

Again, thanks to everyone who participated. There will be more contests in the future so keep your eyes peeled.

'Scout out :salute:

~~ 1st place ~~

:bulletblue: Prize: 12 month sub + 3 Prints :bulletblue:

:iconthunderlips:
Thunderlips's piece of poignant portrait work deftly, and tastefully
portrays an anonymous firefighter. The dreamy, cloud-like atmosphere works
brilliantly. It's also an example of simple iconography at its best.

As the artist comments: "...i wanted to capture a moment or a feeling..."

I think it does so perfectly. :aww:

~~ 2nd place ~~

:bulletblue: Prize: 3 month sub + 2 Prints :bulletblue:

:iconstraycat27:
I read the descriptions of every single entry as they arrived and the story
behind Straycat's portrait of his mother is a perfect demonstration of
heroism.

The piece itself is a very accomplished digital painting. The soft focus works
wonderfully against the details of the face and is another example of powerful,
personal work.

~~ 3rd place ~~

:bulletblue: Prize: 2 month sub (combined) + 1 Print :bulletblue:

:iconhippyofdoom:
How could I not put this one through?! I'm actually jealous that this isn't one of
my Director Series portraits. :shakefist: HippyofDoom's portrait of Robert Rodriguez
immediately, it struck me visually as a great piece of digital painting and similar to
my chosen style.

A myriad of textures are tucked away - stitching,
stubble & metallic shinys make it a great portrait.

~~ Winner of the Wacom Volito Graphics Tablet ~~

:iconrtyson:
RTyson's work in progress of Matt Damon as Jason Bourne
is a truly mammoth piece of work. Scaled at A2, the final piece is going to be
miraculous... if it ever gets finished, right Ruth? ;)

I hope that having the Wacom will inspire Ruth to experiment painting digitally.
Her eye for detail could well result in some incredible portraits.

Congratulations to the four of you! :D
